Ballroom Dancing
Important information about registration: READ FIRST, then REGISTER
• Please select your gender according to your role; incorrect information will result in exclusion from the course!
• Registering as a “woman”: role of the follower
• Registering as a “man”: role of the leader
o This is not a statement about your actual gender. Unfortunately, we have no other way of regulating the ratio of followers to leaders.
• Register for the correct level. A prerequisite for participation is confident and rhythmically accurate mastery of the figures from the previous courses (see table). If you are missing some of the prerequisite knowledge, participation is only possible after consultation!
• The notification option is not a waiting list!
• For all inquiries, e.g., to be placed on the waiting list, please use the course instructor contact form! (Names of course instructors next to the registration form)
• Your partner has successfully registered, but you haven't? Write to us using the course instructor contact form!
• Solo followers (especially Level 1) should not hesitate to register, as there has always been a surplus of leaders so far!
• Trial sessions are only possible once in the first three weeks – and only if the course is not yet fully booked.
• Feel free to contact us if you are looking for a partner for the advanced course (Level 4)
FAQ
I only want to dance with my partner. Is that possible?
This is not possible in Levels 1-3, as we want to give all participants, including those who register alone, the opportunity to dance. If this is not an option for you, please do not register for the course. You can, of course, participate as a couple in the open dance evening.
My partner is registered, but I can no longer register. What should I do?
Please contact us using the course instructor contact form, and we will try to find a place for you! Registering under the wrong gender in order to “cheat” your way into a place will result in exclusion from the course!
The course is already fully booked. Can I still join?
Please contact us using the course instructor contact form, and we will see if you can be added during the first few weeks. We strive to achieve a balanced ratio of followers and leaders. Please understand that we cannot add you if your role is already overrepresented. In most cases, followers are sought.
I already have previous experience. Which level should I register for?
Please take a close look at which elements from the table below you already master. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a general recommendation as the content of other courses varies greatly. Are you unsure or are you missing just one figure? Please contact us via the course
Information about the courses
The courses provide an insight into international standard and Latin American dances. Four courses are offered, which are classified according to different levels – the prerequisite for participation is confident and rhythmically accurate mastery of the figures from the previous courses (see table).
Level 1 (beginners):
This course teaches the basics of ballroom dancing, including the slow waltz, tango, quickstep, cha cha cha, rumba, jive, and disco fox, as well as the first figure sequences, so that participants can soon take part in their first ball or dance party. No previous knowledge is necessary. The beginners' course is generally rotated.
Level 2:
Building on the knowledge gained in the beginner's course, new figures are learned. The dances samba and Viennese waltz are added. In addition, initial technical concepts are introduced. To participate in this course, confident and rhythmically accurate mastery of all basic steps and figures from Level 1 (see table) is required! Please note that Level 1 in the program is not equivalent to basic courses at dance schools! If you lack some of the prerequisite knowledge, participation is only possible after consultation! Rotation is always used in this course.
Level 3:
Building on the knowledge gained in Level 2, new figures are learned. The slow foxtrot and paso doble dances are added. We continue to work on technical concepts and address the different characteristics of the dances. To participate in this course, you must have a confident and rhythmic mastery of all the content from Levels 1 and 2 (see table)! If you are missing some of the prerequisite knowledge, participation is only possible after consultation! This course is generally rotated.
Level 4:
Experienced dancers are welcome to expand their individual skills here. The focus is on using your knowledge to increase the enjoyment of dancing. This is not just about figure sequences, but rather improvisation with existing modules and developing musicality, dance technique, and body awareness. Participants should have a good sense of rhythm and an advanced understanding of standard and Latin American dances. To participate in this course, you must have mastered all the figures from the previous courses with confidence and a good sense of rhythm!
