The course begins on October 20, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. with an online introductory session. All registered participants will receive a link to participate in advance. The scheduled dates are October 27, November 3, November 17, and November 24. These sessions will take place in person as scheduled, except for November 24. Any changes to the dates will be discussed on October 21. The course will be held exclusively on Monday evenings. The course prepares for the SBF theory exam and provides information on practical training options. In addition to attending the course, independent preparation is required, e.g., using apps or websites. Participants will receive information about a website to prepare for the exam during the course. The time required to learn theory and practical skills is between 20 and 50 hours, depending on the specific license. The exam can be taken on various weekends. The course primarily prepares for the exam on December 13th in Frankfurt am Main. Further dates are possible in 2026. A medical certificate and a passport photo are required for exam registration (total costs approximately €30-60). Registration for the exam on December 13th must be completed by December 8th at the latest. The exam fees range from €130 (SBF Inland) to €220 (SBF Inland Motor & Sail + SBF Sea). The practical training costs between €100 and €300 for SBF Sea and SBF Inland Motor, depending on the scope and provider, and usually takes place one to two weeks before the practical exam. The cost for additional teaching materials is €20-60.
